Frequently asked questions
We love barrel saunas because they are a simple structure that heat well and fast. If you love to sauna, but don't love the hassle of going to a gym or spa, barrel saunas are a perfect investment for an individual or family. You can place your barrel sauna any where you want to on your property and they can always be relocated with you if you ever move.
Saunas are 12 feet long, 7 feet in diameter. You will need flat, level ground for your sauna, with a clear path for delivery.
We recommend checking your insurance policies as some recommend a certain distance away from an insured structure.
No. We do not make them and we don't recommend them. Wood fired stoves provide the best, most efficient heat for your sauna experience.
We can say with confidence that Finnish made Harvia stoves are the heart of your sauna. The fire is behind a cast-iron framed glass door, and the top of the stove features a steel grate, with plenty of room for sauna rocks (included). This is the correct size stove to heat your sauna, with extra safety features included, such as two fire resistant hearths. Loading the sauna from the inside is easy, and lets you control the temperature more carefully.
We do not build our own stoves or pipes. Burly Barrel Saunas take the stove part of the sauna very seriously, ensuring proper distance between stove and wood, and only using the best quality products. Ones we trust, so you can too.
Saunas loading from the outside lose about 25% of their heat. It's inefficient, and doesn't stay hot. It's difficult to get a sauna heated with an outdoor loading stove up to a hot temperature in the middle of a freezing winter.
Besides, saunas indoors offer a cozy atmosphere, a gentle crackling, soft light and that can't-be-beat wood smell.
No. Just place the log inside, and all will be fine.
We get this question a lot! We are happy to report that no. The inside does not get smoky. Not even a little.
Absolutely. Steam those rocks up! Wash away. Burly Barrel Sauna floors have drains to help with water, and the wood is treated. Sweat, wash, splash. It's all good.
The main Burly structure is standard, designed for maximum performance in the middle of a northern winter. Thinking about something else? Contact us to discuss!
A Burly Barrel Sauna can go from 0-200 degrees in about 40minutes.
Hot! But we'll let you decide.
Our Burly Barrels get up to 230 and stay up there even in a Wisconsin January.
We recommend you enjoy a sauna between 190 and 210 degrees.
